Is CoolSculpting Really The Liposuction Alternative You Think?

Years ago, if you wanted to get rid of the fat that just hung on despite diet and exercise habits, you’d have to undergo surgery. Liposuction is one of the cornerstones of cosmetic plastic surgery still today, though it has gained some competition. A few years ago, when the CoolSculpting device was cleared by the FDA, people all around the country praised this fat-reducing treatment as a non-surgical liposuction alternative.

We are pleased to offer both liposuction and CoolSculpting in our office near Las Vegas and have performed each of these procedures numerous times. Would we use the term “alternative” when discussing the two? We might look at one method as apples and the other as oranges.  If you’re weighing your options for body contouring before summer, there are some ways you can discern which approach may be best for you.

What’s The Problem?

Observing yourself in the mirror, you’re probably quick to spot exactly what the problem is. It could be that your thighs no longer have a gap in between them, or that that backs of your arms have gotten jiggly. It’s not quite enough to identify the problem area; there is also benefit to asking what you want the area to look like. For example, if you just want your stomach to be flatter, CoolSculpting may be a great option. If, however, you’d like your stomach to have more of the abdominal curves of a six-pack, liposuction is your best bet.

There may be variations to what liposuction can achieve versus CoolSculpting in terms of body part, too. Where CoolSculpting applicators fit tissue on the lower abdomen, thighs, back, chin, and backs of the arms, liposuction can also treat smaller or larger areas such as the cheeks, the male chest, the knees or ankles, the pubis, the buttocks, hips, or the breasts.

Whether you’re considering CoolSculpting or liposuction, the bottom line is you want a particular result. Consulting with an experienced plastic surgeon doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be told you need surgery.  What it does guarantee is that you’ll receive extensive information that will help you decide what is best for you.
