Breast lift is a plastic surgery procedure to enhance the appearance of the breasts using one of three incision techniques either at the areola, a lollipop incision, or an anchor incision, depending on each individual patient’s requirements. With each incision, Dr. Shah will lift and reshape the breast tissue to compensate for sagging and stretched breast skin. The nipples and areolae are raised to a higher position to match the new position of the breasts, and any extra skin can be trimmed away from the areola to make them smaller. The last step is to trim away excess sagging skin.
If a patient has opted to include breast augmentation, the final point involves Dr. Shah creating breast pockets where implants are inserted using the incisions made for the lift. Choosing Your Breast Implant Size
Patients can choose between round or teardrop-shaped implants. Teardrop-shaped implants are known to create more natural-looking results and are less likely to move within the breast pocket. You will also need to decide on the material of your breast implants. Signature Plastic Surgery offers three types of implants:
Gummy Bear implants are the newest silicone implants and go by the name “Gummy Bear” or “Tear Drop” implants. Due to the viscosity of the gel inside, the implants feel thicker and firmer than other traditional silicone gel implants.
Silicone implants are made of medical-grade silicone that fills the implant shell. Additionally, the shell is also made of silicone. Due to the nature of the gel, silicone implants feel the most like natural breast tissue.
Saline breast implants use the same silicone shell as the silicone gel implants, but they are filled with sterile saline water. Saline implants are filled once inside the breast pockets, allowing Dr. Shah to make a small incision and adjust the implant size once in place.
Types of Breast Lift Incision
A breast lift is not a one-size-fit-all procedure. Dr. Shah views every breast lift procedure as entirely individual. Where the incisions will be placed depend on several factors, including personal preference and which incision will allow Dr. Shah to help you reach your ultimate results. Dr. Shah uses three different types of incision methods when conducting a breast lift:
- Areola Incision: Also known as a small-incision mastopexy, a donut-shaped incision is made around the areola. This method creates minimal visible scarring but is generally only used for women with minimal sagging who don’t require much excess skin to be removed.
- Lollipop Incision: The lollipop incision circles the areola and then drops straight down, ending at the breast crease. This method allows for moderate removal of excess fat and skin from the breasts.
- Anchor incision: An anchor incision circles the areola, drops down to the breast crease, and then extends outward in both directions, like the shape of an anchor. The anchor incision allows for the most skin removal and for a more defined lift, but it also creates the largest scar.

A key aspect of Dr. Shah’s breast lift with implant approach is his ability to help potentially minimize recovery and downtime through meticulous surgical precision. Following the procedure, some mild swelling and bruising will be present, though they should subside relatively quickly. Initial soreness in the breasts is also a common side effect, but any discomfort can be managed with minimal medication. Strenuous activities and high-impact exercises will have to be put on pause for about one month, but you can do light exercising just after a week or so. At six weeks post-op, most patients are able to resume normal upper body exercises.
