What Is a Breast Lift in Henderson, NV?
A breast lift procedure, medically referred to as a mastopexy, is a surgical approach used to elevate the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissues to create a more youthful shape and appearance.
Over time, weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, and lost skin elasticity can make your breasts look deflated. When this occurs, you may feel uncomfortable wearing low-cut dresses and swimsuits and have trouble finding bras that fit comfortably. As breast sagging increases in severity, the volume will shift from the upper pole to the base, causing a flattened appearance.
In addition, heavy, sagging breasts can place excessive strain on your back muscles, causing poor posture and musculoskeletal pain. Breast lift surgery can eliminate the need for expensive support bras, make exercise more comfortable, and restore a more youthful appearance.

How Can I Prepare For My Breast Lift?
You’ll prepare for surgery as you would with any surgery. You’ll need to stop taking blood thinning medication, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and most herbal supplements. That’s because these can cause increased bleeding. If you smoke, you’ll need to stop for at least two weeks prior to your surgery and two weeks after, as smoking constricts the blood vessels, and this impedes healing.
Much of your preparation should focus on your recovery. You’ll want to lay low for the first week after your procedure with Dr. Shah. You want to create a recovery nest filled with comfort. Lots of pillows and blankets. You’ll have to sleep mainly on your back for a good amount of time, so you’ll want pillows positioned to keep you from rolling onto your chest. Get all the entertainment you want right there so you can simply take it easy.
You’ll also be limited in reaching upward and lifting any weight, so if there are items in your cupboards that you use regularly, you’ll want to bring them down onto the counter. You’ll want help around the house, as well. This isn’t a time to go it alone.
What to Expect From a Breast Lift Procedure
During a breast lift, Dr. Shah removes excess tissue and relocates the nipple-areola complex to point forward instead of down. If you have enlarged areolas, Dr. Shah can resize them as part of the surgery.
Creating a lifted effect involves repositioning and reshaping skin. Dr. Shah will place sutures deep within your breast tissue to support the elevated position.
Types of Breast Lift Incisions
Everyone embarks on a plastic surgery journey for different reasons. Dr. Shah views every breast lift procedure as completely individual, so there is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” surgical plan.
Dr. Shah will choose from three incision patterns for a breast lift procedure.
Also known as a small-incision mastopexy, the areola incision is often best for patients experiencing mild sagging who do not need much skin removed. Dr. Shah creates a doughnut-shaped incision around each areola. This method creates minimal scarring and requires less time for recovery.
This incision circles the areola and then drops straight down, ending at the breast crease. This method allows moderate removal of excess skin and fat.
This method circles each areola, drops down to the breast crease, and then extends outward in both directions, like the shape of an anchor. The anchor incision allows Dr. Shah to maximize skin removal and tissue adjustments, but it also creates more extensive scars.
For each incision, Dr. Shah reshapes breast tissue to correct drooping and laxity. He will relocate the nipple-areola complex to match the new breast position and remove extra skin around the areolae to make them smaller.
If your breast lift will include implants, Dr. Shah can place them using the same incisions made for the lift. By combining procedures, you can simultaneously improve the volume and position of your breasts without needing additional surgery.
Breast Lift Recovery
As with any procedure, breast lift recovery will vary from patient to patient. In general, most women can expect to feel well enough to return to work after one to two weeks, with most swelling resolved after about three to six weeks. Please refrain from challenging physical activities and adhere to Dr. Shah’s post-operative guidelines for recovery. These instructions will likely include rest, avoiding heavy lifting, wearing a surgical support garment, taking prescribed medications, and attending all scheduled follow-up appointments.

What Are The Risks Involved With A Breast Lift?
Breast lifts are major surgeries, so they include the risks involved with surgery: bleeding or the formation of a hematoma, reaction to anesthesia, infection, and slow incision healing.
Risks related to breast lifts include:
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation (these usually revolve within a few months)
- Irregularities in breast contour or shape
- Breast asymmetry
- Necrosis of fat tissue
- Fluid accumulation
- Possibility of the need for revision surgery
Will I Have Noticeable Scarring After The Procedure?
Scarring will be a part of these procedures, as the incisions are somewhat lengthy. But you’ll be surprised at how they fade with time. As you would assume, the anchor incision will create the most scarring.
The best advice for managing or attempting to minimize the appearance of your scars is to leave the silicone wound dressings in place until Dr. Shah removes them at your follow-up. Also, always wearing your surgical bra and then your support bra during the first 4-6 weeks is critical. This eliminates any pressure on the incisions, which keeps the scars as narrow as possible. It also helps eliminate some of the redness.
Topical scar-minimizing treatments keep the area moisturized and help to minimize the appearance of the scars. SkinMedica makes one such product called Scar Recovery Gel with Centelline.
Lightly massaging your scars can help them heal more smoothly. But you cannot do this too early and put stress on your incisions. Ask Dr. Shah when massage could be appropriate, along with the proper technique.
